Colleges should shoot for balance in academics and athletics

Lexington, KY – Across Kentucky, people were excited and proud to see our hometown team in the Final Four. It’s no stretch to say that in the absence of professional sports teams, our region has elevated the Cats to pro status; we watch their every move and cheer their successes. Has the state of NCAA Division I athletics, which has commercialized college sports to such an extreme, led us to this? Are the Cats, like their peer teams across Division I, a college team or not?
