Core College Advising

Our Core College Advising service consists of these four clearly defined steps:

1. Initial interview: Our two-hour meeting with student and parent(s) defines educational priorities and objectives, making sure all parties agree on parameters and realistic paths.  With insight gained from experience in college admission offices, we’ll review academic records, extracurricular activities, test scores and more.

Jane, your efforts in assisting us through the maze of the college selection, application and decision making process were better than I could have ever imagined. They were flawless. – Margaret O., parent

We’ll explore the student’s dreams and goals. We’ll discuss how options are influenced by your student’s current educational interests, as well as by prior academic performance, accomplishments and other skills and abilities.  We’ll discuss your financial and geographic considerations.  In a nutshell, we’ll establish a framework for the college search at hand.

2. College list: After the initial interview, when you’ve confirmed your interest in partnering for the college search, we’ll conduct research to compile a list of colleges most appropriate for your student’s specific interests and abilities.  Not every student is suited for the Ivy League, nor does a top ranking in a college guidebook or survey mean that a particular college is right for all individuals.  A student’s best college options are sometimes those less widely known.  We’ll consider all possibilities and prepare a focused list of suggestions.

3. Follow-up consultation: We’ll present our list of college suggestions and advice about how students can best carry out further research.  We’ll also provide advice about approaching the application process, identifying students’ most distinctive interests and accomplishments for emphasis in applications and essays.

Would you like more extensive support throughout the search and application process?

Comprehensive College Advising

4. Feedback regarding one completed application:  We’ll provide feedback for one completed application of the student’s choice with essay(s), typically in the fall of senior year.  Our critique will address both form and content, and will help the student understand how the application can be strengthened.

Supplementary consultations: Arrangements may be made for additional work to supplement the Core College Advising service on an hourly basis.
